Teeth whitening procedures are used to brighten the appearance of a patient’s smile – sometimes by as many as 5 to 10 shades in a single session. According to the American Dental Association, teeth whitening procedures have become some of the most popular esthetic dental treatments among patients. Professional teeth whitening services can be performed in an office setting or taken home for use by a patient. In comparison to over-the-counter teeth whitening treatments, professional teeth whitening uses stronger whitening agents that deliver faster and more effective results.
Teeth naturally darken as we age? Furthermore, certain foods, beverages, medications and certain daily activities can contribute to a darker, yellower, stained smile. However, it is possible to remove years of stains and dis-coloration in a single professional whitening session and sustain those results for many years with proper maintenance. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, professional whitening is best maintained by a combination of good oral care and take-home whitening treatments as recommended by your dentist.
You may be a candidate for professional teeth whitening if you do not have multiple crowns or fillings in your front teeth, but otherwise have healthy teeth and gums. The process consists of 3 fifteen minute applications under the light. The teeth are isolated with a paint on dam, then the solution is light activated and left on the teeth for 15 minutes then washed off and then reapplied. Your results will vary according to the natural shade of your teeth and degree of discoloration, but it is normal for patients to experience a lightening of several shades in a single visit.
It is normal to experience some tooth sensitivity following a professional whitening treatment. You may be instructed to avoid consuming dark beverages for at least 24 hours to prevent the teeth from becoming stained again. Examples include tea, coffee and red wine. Depending on your results and long-term teeth whitening goals, you may also be sent home from your visit with an at-home whitening kit for later use.
Dental bonding is a non-invasive procedure that adheres a composite (tooth colored) material to the surface of your teeth. It helps to create a brighter, more aesthetically pleasing smile without the use of prosthetics like dentures and tooth implants.
This procedure is most commonly used to treat teeth that are cracked, decayed, or discolored. It can also be used to make teeth appear longer and close spacing between teeth.
Dental bonding is one of the most affordable and easy cosmetic procedures that can be done to improve the appearance of your smile. In fact, with one visit you could get a more attractive smile and a boost in self-confidence!
Dental bonding is a great option for individuals who want an attractive smile, but do not want to undergo an invasive procedure. If you have minor chips, cracks, and fractures in your teeth, discolored teeth, dental bonding might be a great option for you.
Ultimately, it’s important to consult with Dr. Vartanian to determine if you’re a candidate.
Teeth that have undergone dental bonding can still be stained from things like coffee and tea. To avoid this, it’s advisable to avoid drinking any of these beverages for at least 48 hours after undergoing the procedure. Additionally, you can extend the life of your bonding by brushing regularly and visiting our office every six months.
When properly cared for, dental bonding can last 3 to 5 years, sometimes longer. You’ll get the most out of it by following a healthy oral hygiene routine, avoiding hard candies, chewing on ice, and staying away from food and drink that could stain your teeth. If you happen to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, be sure to brush immediately afterward.
Porcelain veneers help give our patients the smile they’ve always dreamed of having. We provide custom-made porcelain veneers that can transform the shape and color of our patient’s teeth, exuding the look of vitality and confidence. Just two appointments can change the way our patients experience life – all thanks to a thin, translucent exterior shell placed on top of the surface of the teeth.
Veneers have long been used for cosmetic purposes among people who are unhappy with the natural appearance of their smiles. Porcelain veneers can provide greater symmetry to the face, reshape chipped, broken or misaligned teeth, and help our patients achieve a brighter, whiter smile than is possible with traditional teeth whitening.
Ceramic veneers are bonded to the teeth and require minimal preparation to the teeth. Their translucent appearance provides life-like esthetics, while their strength allows them to stand up to the demands of everyday use.
Porcelain veneers are unlikely to stain and are resistant to fracture when well cared for. They tend to last for many years, and even decades before needing to be replaced.
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST®)., is a scalpel-free, suture-free procedure for the treatment of gum recession.
This procedure is performed by making a small access in the gum tissue. Using specially designed instruments, the gum tissue is loosened and guided over the receded parts of the teeth. Once the tissue is loosened and positioned over the receded areas, tiny collagen strips are inserted into the access to hold the gum tissue in position. Since there is no incision or suturing, patients can expect minimal post-operative symptoms (pain, swelling and bleeding). Most patients also are pleasantly surprised by the instant cosmetic improvement.
A full mouth reconstruction offers to patients a solution for those who have experienced a variety of dental traumas. From those who grind their teeth (bruxism) to those who have had extensive dental disease looking for a fresh start. A full mouth restoration will improve both the aesthetics of your mouth and its function. This helps improve the quality of your life and overall confidence.
No two full mouth restorations are alike. This procedure is completely customized to meet your specific needs and can rely on a wide variety of sub-procedures. Because the point of a full mouth restoration is to improve the health of your teeth, gums, and bite the procedures required to accomplish the end results can vary. Dental implants, crowns, bridges, veneers, fillings, and more can all be a part of the process.
Because a full mouth restoration is quite involved, it’s important that whoever is considering the procedure be in good health. Being healthy will make healing and recovering easier, and will also help you get the best results possible.
The length of your full mouth restoration will depend on how many procedures are required to accomplish our goals. Generally, however, you can expect multiple visits over several months. This is because each procedure will require recovery time and healing. The benefit is that each procedure will help improve your quality of life and confidence. So each procedure is a step toward a more balanced and complete bite.
Because the restoration occurs over several months, recovery usually occurs in steps. In each step or phase, you will have to wear the restorations and function with them to determine if the direction and function of the temporaries are right for you. Once we have determined that the temporary teeth are correct in size, length and function final restorations will be fabricated.
